The Mustard Seed News/Mailing List

September 2009

Dear Friends,
Greetings from The Mustard Seed.
As many of you will know, all four of us are really big fans of Belfast singer-songwriter Brian Houston. For the last couple of years or so, Brian has been busy building up his following among ‘mainstream’ audiences, so it’s been a while since he’s released an album of purely Christian material.

Well, he’s certainly made up for it with his latest offering Gospel Road…a collection of 11 Brian Houston originals which take ‘old time religion’ and nuances of the Deep South and somehow give them a fresh 21st century feel.

Gospel Road is already getting rave reviews together with plenty of Radio 2 airplay, and ironically it could win Brian more sales in the mainstream market than many of his more secular releases.

You can get your copy from the Mustard Seed for just £11.99 and you can find out more about Brian at www.brianhouston.com

Among the 15,000+ at this year’s Greenbelt Festival, local author Rob Chidley was perhaps one of the most nervous. Rob had been invited to Cheltenham to talk about his debut novel The Third Tribe…a great opportunity but a daunting prospect when you consider other speakers in this year’s line-up included controversial bishop Gene Robinson, author and mega-church pastor Rob Bell, and a scattering of government ministers (plus 100 or so others, too many to list here!). We’re pleased to report that Rob emerged from his ordeal still in one piece and with a smile on his face, so we guess all went well.

The Third Tribe is a compelling read and it’s available from The Mustard Seed priced £7.99. If you want to know what Rob told his Greenbelt audience you can download his talk (and most of the others!) at www.greenbelt.org.uk

Our Select magazine this month includes some great offers on Bibles, commentaries, study guides and DVDs. If you don’t normally receive Select in the post, do call in and pick one up from the shop.

Here are just a few examples of some of the bargains on offer. Save £10 on an NLT Study Bible (rrp £27.50, offer price just £17.50) or £5 on an NRSV Cambridge Study Bible (rrp £32.99, offer price £27.99). There’s £4 off The Lion Handbook to the Bible (offer price £14) and £3 off the handy A-Z dictionary Who’s Who and Where’s Where in the Bible (now just £7.99). We’ve also got £2 off all books in the The People’s Bible Commentary series and the Bible Speaks Today series.

And finally…
If your passport is up to date and you don’t mind travelling, don’t forget that Malc’s church in Kidlington* is hosting the nationwide Restored Tour on Sunday, September 27 featuring reformed drug dealer turned evangelist Barry Woodward (author of the top-selling book Once an Addict) and singer songwriter Shell Perris. Tickets £5 available from The Mustard Seed. This promises to be an inspiring and challenging event with a powerful message of hope for everyone from pre-teens and young adults to those who’ve been around the block a time or two!

With love and best wishes from us all.

Yours in Christ
Malc, Ali, Ian & Jo
